Penny is currently the Gynecologic Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) at Northside Hospital Cancer Institute in Atlanta, GA. She also works with unassigned oncology patients needing ONN services. She has been in this position for 8 years. Prior to that, she was the Clinical Research Director of Southeastern Gynecologic Oncology for 10 years where she coordinated and assisted in writing Investigator Initiated trials, and participated in the ONS team to create Core Competencies for Clinical Trial Nurses.
Before moving to Georgia in 1989, she was a surgical oncology nurse in Florida for many years.
She has been active in ONS since 1993 serving as Chapter President of Metro Atlanta ONS in 2003 as well as being a founding member of Cancer Patient Navigators of Georgia (2009), Co-Chair of the annual CPNG conference since 2015, and a member of the ONS Nurse Navigator SIG since its inception.
She was a co-editor and contributing author of the first comprehensive textbook on Oncology Nurse Navigators, Oncology Nurse Navigation, Delivering Patient-Centered Care Across the Continuum, published by ONS in the summer of 2014, as well as the companion book, Oncology Nurse Navigation Case Studies, published in Spring, 12017.
She was a co-editor of the Scenarios in Navigation column in Oncology Nursing News from 2014 to 2018 and is looking forward to co-editing a new Scenarios in Navigation column in Journal of Oncology Navigation and Survivorship to begin in August, 2018.
She currently serves as Co-Chair of the AONN+ Conference Planning Committee.
